Apple’s 2024 iPad Lineup

As you probably already know last week announced new iPads Pro M4 and iPad Airs M2.

And just like every year after the announcement the social media and Youtube echo chamber started its annual beat down of the iPad software. The narrative is the same as in past years. “The iPad is amazing hardware but is limited by the software” but the thing is when you look at why they are regurgitating this statement you find out that they are trying to use the iPad as a Macbook and not as a Tablet.

Why some people want to make the iPad into a Macbook when Apple gives them plenty of options if they want a laptop is beyond me.

They also complained that the price of the Magic Keyboard was too high and started posting screenshots of their total purchase and 99% of them purchased a Magic Keyboard with the iPad. And we have to ask ourselves, why?

If you check these youtubers and social media “influencers” you see they already have Macbooks so why are they trying to convert the iPad into another? I think that if you already have a laptop you don’t need a Magic Keyboard and are just purchasing something because you can’t. You won’t find a use for it so you start feeling guilty for spending money on something you don’t need so you start venting online.

The same applies to people purchasing more iPads than they need. Do you really need an iPad Pro? or is the iPad Air or even the base iPad enough?

I saw this guy with an iPad Air M1 asking for advice if he should buy an iPad Air M2 or an iPad Pro to replace his M1 iPad. What was he’s use case? Browsing the web. Thats it. He says he doesn’t even stream videos, play games, or do anything else but surf the web. How moronic is that he’s already overpowered M1 is more than enough.

The point is that most people complaining about the iPad don’t need a high-end model or even a Magic Keyboard because they already have a laptop.

I am a Mac first person and take my Macbook almost anywhere. At home, I have a Mac Studio in the main office and another iMac in the second office. And if I had to pick between only using a Mac or iPad it would be the Mac. But since I don't have to choose between them I use both and currently have 3 iPads. A 12.9 IPad Pro that I use to edit photos and as an extra display but mostly for PDF revision and annotations and now that a 13” Air is available I will get one of those next time I need a big iPad. But my most used iPads are my 11” Air and my iPad Mini. Because I take them anywhere for quick note-taking, brainstorming, document review, managing my tasks, calendar and just watching videos. No need for a keyboard, no need for max-out devices. And when you treat an iPad as an iPad and not a Macbook they are great.

So know what you need and don’t overbuy and use the tools as they are intended and you will have a great experience. Mac and iPad are complementary it isn’t one or the other.
